Presentation: A Celebration of Heroes; A Whistleblower's Story

Key Speaker: James Holzrichter, Northrup Gruman Whistleblower, 2015 ACFE Cliff Robertson Sentinel Award Recipient

Presentation Description:Back in the 1980s, Holzrichter — then an eager young analyst and systems auditor for Northrop (later Northrop Grumman) — brought to his supervisor some problems of materials acquisition and management.

Holzrichter eventually discovered alleged overcharging ofthe government and selling of defective equipment to the tune of millions of dollars.

He and another Northrop whistleblower filed a qui tam suit under the U.S. False Claims Act. The aerospace community blackballed him, so he had to deliver the Chicago Tribune newspaper and clean toilets for a living. Holzrichter and his family would live in a homeless shelter and later subsidized housing. Someone would actually try to kill Holzrichter, his oldest son and his oldest daughter. Not death threats but attempts.

Yet, Holzrichter wouldn't relent. Finally on March 1, 2005, 17 years after the qui tam filing, Northrop Grumman settled with the U.S. government for $134 million.

Presentation: Doing the Right Thing: Learning From the Best, Worst and Most Challenging Ethical Dilemmas

Key Speaker: Ryan Hubbs, CFE, CIA, CCEP, PHR, CCSA

Presentation Description:Doing the right thing is very easy to talk about, but in reality it can be very hard to do.  In our professional careers we will face hard decisions, ethical dilemmas, possibly life or death situations. How will we react? Will we make the right choices?

From the Bernie Madoff investigation to the NASA Challenger explosion, professionals have been presented with challenges to do the right thing. This interactive presentation will highlight some of the most challenging ethics dilemmas that professionals have been faced with over the past 50 years.

Not to be outdone, some of the worst decisions by crooks and the ethically challenged will also be highlighted to provide contrast, clarity and comedy. After analyzing these case studies, you will leave with renewed confidence that they can do the right thing when that time comes.
